Saducismus Triumphatus: or, Full and Plain Evidence Concerning Witches and Apparitions In Two Parts, the First Treating of Their Possibility, the Second of Their Real Existence

Printed for J. Collins at his Sh, 1681. Hardcover. First edition with parts put together for the first time. Full leather, appears to have original boards that were professionally repaired (c.1900s?) with newer leather at spine and corners. One engraved frontispiece at front, "Saducismus Triumphatus, Part the Second". Missing other engraved frontis that is present in some other copies. Binding has come loose from textblock, pages are loose but all are present, intact, and very clean. Blank page before Second Part. Faint foxing to title, occasional faint foxing to page edges. Bookplate of Charles W. Burr, MD at front pastedown. Protected in removable archival plastic sleeve. One of the most important English works on witches and the paranormal. Glanvill thought disbelief in witches would lead to a rejection of Christianity and so made it his mission to prove their existence. This book was printed 10 years before the events that led to the Salem Witch Trials. Good. Item #mon0002002975
